Still so independent‘You’re as young as you feel’ is a saying that certainly applies to Eileen Harris.“It’s simply impossible to keep track of what mum’s up to these days,” says Eileen’s daughter, Anna, “she’s so active that I’m thinking of tying her down to make her rest! Having said that, it’s great that she’s still so independent – one day she’s swimming at the leisure centre, another she’s off on a coach trip to the lake district and the next she’s on the internet at the library!” Now that Eileen lives on her own, Anna does her utmost to visit her mum as often as she can but with a job and two teenage boys, it’s not as often as she would like. Anna knows that Eileen has almost completely forgotten about the fall she had at home last year but puts this down to her positive attitude towards life. “I still worry about it but she just dismisses it as a silly one off incident. At least twice a month I’ll take mum to the garden centre but on this particular day, I couldn’t make it so she decided to potter about in the garden at home. She only fell down one step but couldn’t move. I was so relieved that I’d installed Aid Call a few months earlier. She just had to press the button of her remote pendant and the 24 hour call centre contacted me in no time at all. Anna was delighted that Aid Call were so quick to respond to her mum’s situation and to get help to her as soon as she needed it. Anna added, “If I hadn’t been there straight away, it’s great to know that they could have contacted one of the other key holders or emergency services. Luckily, she wasn’t hurt but it could so easily have been a different story.” Eileen readily admits that she thrives on her independence but is not so keen to admit that she does sometimes need the support of others. “I’m now used to being on my own but I suppose that fall last year came as a reminder that I’m not actually as young as I think I am. I know that Anna worries when I’m on my own so it’s good for both of us to have the safety net of Aid Call.” The peace of mind that comes with Aid Call can give both you and your loved ones the confidence to live life to the full. You needn’t worry about not being there for them all the time and they can carry on living their lives still feeling young! |
